On a side note, i often hear that they changed from made in japan to crafted in japan a ways back, and i DO remember around the late 90's when the last few MIJ's fender was importing and selling here in the states said crafted rather than made. But from what i've always read here it's always sounded like they changed to crafed in all MIJ's, not just the ones fender imported for sale in the USA. Whats the story on this, because my new MIJ i imported from Ishibashi says made, not crafted. Maybe the non exports have always said made? Or maybe they recently changed back?

Came across this looking for info, but perhaps I can add some too. The serial number conventions listed on these JD ones seem to resemble the way Gretsches out of Japan have been numbered since FMIC partnered with Gretsch around '03. Country + Factory + Year + Month + Number of that model that have been produced. So a serial like - JD12020666 Japan, Dyna Gakki Factory?, February 2012, 666th of that model produced over its life span. That's my hunch if it is indeed the same as the Gretsches made in Japan.
