Ibanez Tube Screamer Ts808 Serial Number
Hey folks, A friend of mine recently picked up an original 1981 Ibanez ts808 tubescreamer for $40. He got it from a kid who was given the pedal by his grandfather. The kid gave up on guitar and sold all his stuff before a big move out-of-province. Now before you go calling my friend a thieving bastard.
Ibanez TS808HW Hand-Wired Tube Screamer Review – Best Overdrive Pedal? Vs original TS808 Tube Screamer. Ibanez TS808HW Hand-Wired Tube Screamer is. DATING IBANEZ GUITARS. An Ibanez serial number can tell you two things, year of manufacture and factory [or country] of manufacture.
Both him and the seller were under the impression it was one of the ts808 re-issues. It was only about a week later that my friend looked over it more closely and thought it might be an original. After doing some research it turns out it definitely is. Install Package In R here. I'm really happy for him as his family is in pretty dire straights financially and he can never get good gear.
(He's been playing the same Squire Telecaster and Peavy Rage amp for 4 years) I've told him that he should set it aside for a long while and reserve it for the studio as its guaranteed to appreciate in value. I'm wondering what the current going rate is for one of these puppies? The pedal has a lot of chipped paint but is in full working order and is all-stock. Any idea as to what its appreciation-value might be in the future?
Thanks for all your help! Cheers -Tom PS: And yes, it sounds incredible.
We tried it through my Fender NOS Blues Jr. And it was a religious experience. Click to expand.Hey, a buddy picked one of those up at a garage sale for next to nothing - and sure enough, the OD does sound great. As you say, tho' - the rest of it sounds like sh!t. It's a hideous looking thing too, which may explain why you'll see them be practically given away while an old tubescreamer will always go for many, many times it's original value. My pal's pretty good with a soldering iron, but so far hasn't gotten around to rehousing the 808 circuit in a smaller enclosure.
Most of this vintage *mojo* stuff is pure BS, IMO. If the original poster's friend is really hurting, he should definitely put it on the bay, today.
And then turn around and buy an MJM BluesDevil with a small fraction of the dough someone will inevitably pay for the Ibanez. Because Jan's building one of the best 808 clones around, and they're consistently good - UNLIKE those old TS's that may or MAY NOT have the 'right' components - That's why a true tone-hound like Eric Johnson would go thru' 40 of 'em to find THE ONE that sounded best. And given the state of the Canadian vs US dollar, he should definitely get his MJM BD second hand, on the internet - Probably cost him way less than a brand spankin new Bad Monkey!!
