If you are able to complete several scans, before the freeze, it sounds like PP is not 'releasing' a file/process after the completion of the proceeding scan. You can try, in the PP folder, locating 'CheckPPfolders.exe' Double-click it and run it to delete the Paperport metadata. Then test if the issue remains.
